18 March: Day 19– Mother’s Day in the UK

It’s Mother’s Day in the UK so off to Whitby with Jodie, Roger, Phil, Stephanie and Felicity for a Mother’s Day Lunch.

Front of Dunsley Hall Country House Hostel, near Whitby.

Ended up at Dunsley Hall Country House Hotel in Dunsley west of Whitby.  This beautiful place was able to fit us all in at the last moment for a 5 course lunch.

First course of Terrine at the Mother's Day lunch

I had terrine followed by Yorkshire Pudding (of course), risotto and a to-die-for sticky toffee pud with brown sugar icecream.  The lunch should have been followed by coffee and petit fours.  We didn’t have the coffee because, Phil said, the kids were behaving so well throughout the meal that having coffee could just be the straw…..  So we quit while ahead and went off to see the “beach” at the aptly named town of Sandsend just north of Whitby.

Whitby Abbey ruins

Off to look at the ruins of Whitby Abbey and then back to Killerby and an early night.  Big drive anticipated for tomorrow.
